Privacy

Short version: Volt Grid uses your location to play, keeps almost everything on your phone, and shares only crew-colored map hexes, never your name or live position. No ads, no analytics, no tracking, and we never sell data.

Location

The game needs your location to light the hexes you walk through, show nearby Power Nodes and mascots, and plan walking routes. This happens on your phone. To find real places and walking routes, the app uses Apple Maps, which receives the area you're searching around under Apple's privacy policy.

Location is used while the app is open. If you start a walk, it keeps working in the background until you stop the walk, and iOS shows the blue location indicator the whole time.

Shared turf (optional)

So that crews can compete, Volt Grid can share the hexes you've walked with other players. Each hex is a map cell roughly 250 feet (80 m) across. For each one we store:

Other players see a crew color on the map. They never see a name, a profile or where you are right now. Hexes within about 800 feet (250 m) of your home zone (where you first opened the app, or wherever you set it) are never shared. Shared hexes are deleted automatically after 14 days. You can switch sharing off, move your home zone, or delete everything you've shared from the trophy screen in the app. The service runs on Amazon Web Services in the United States. Its operational logs are kept for 14 days.

Steps and motion

Step counts and walking distance are read from your iPhone's motion chip to hatch charge cells and level your buddy. They stay on your phone.

Game Center

If you're signed in to Game Center, your weekly hex and distance totals are posted to Volt Grid's leaderboards under your Game Center profile. Apple runs Game Center under its own privacy policy, and you can sign out in iOS Settings.

Everything else

Your mascots, cells, quests, streak and turf history are saved on your phone and go away when you delete the app. There are no accounts, no advertising, no analytics SDKs and no third-party trackers.

This website (not the app) uses PostHog product analytics: pages viewed, clicks, approximate location. We never sell data.

Children

Volt Grid doesn't ask for anyone's name, email or age, and shared turf carries no identity. We don't knowingly collect personal information from children.
